Weekend Recap

This weekend was one for the record books, yo! I will do my best to recap the haze that it was. Starting with DVS1, which was by far the best Humanaut event I’ve ever been to. From the booking to the production to that killer LED screen behind the deejay, those guys really know how to foster a mood and set the tone for their events. Way to turn a dingy, wood paneled room into the hottest club in Pittsburgh for one evening. Absolutely nothing can be said about this event to do it proper justice. Instead, we have an assortment of videos courtesy of Aaron Clark, one of the Humanaut boys. Pardon the dancing – it was hard to resist.

I always enjoy when DanceBurgh AfterDark AKA The Prophecy AKA Marcus shows up. That’s how you know shit is about to get real. He loves to show up at the last minute, dance his ass off for a good 30-45 minutes and then just peace out. Sometimes he’s shirtless, but one constant remains: dude can dance. Chances are if you see him where you’re at, you’re in the right place. While I cannot divulge the next Humanaut-curated artist to hit the burgh, I will say that he’s one of my favorite deejays that I’ve seen so far this year. Looking forward to the next one, fellas!

Moving on to Saturday, which was the highly-anticipated Glitch Mob/Phantogram show, I felt a little beat up. Recovering from an evening with DVS1 and the Humanaut crew is no joke. Party spirits were rejuvenated just in time for the show, which was entertaining despite the heat wave. Apparently The Rex’s AC was a little flaccid and not up to par for the sold-out crowd that attended. No matter how many IC Light Mangos ya had, you were still dripping with sweat. The scenario would have been tolerable if it weren’t for the slew of tweens with their out of control hula hoops, furry boots and glow sticks. I thought the caliber of the support on the tour would have weeded some of them out, but nah. They were in full force, sweating up the dancefloor to the point where it was uncharted territory for any 21+er. The view from the back was just fine, though, aside from a renegade hula hooper every now and then. See for yourself in this video we took of Phantogram’s last song, When I’m Small, a fan favorite:
