One Weekend, Three Shows, All Dance

There are three very righteous dance events coming up this weekend in Pittsburgh and we’re here to tell you a bit more about them and why you should consider attending. It’s not often we get so many talented peeps into the city at the same time, so let’s celebrate and support the following awesome options that will take your weekend to the next level. Fans of house music will be particularly excited, and you’ll be thanking us once you recover from your wicked hangover Sunday just in time for the game.

First up, we have Trevor Lamont at the new night club in the strip, Cavo. If you happened to catch him here before, then you know this house music veteran does not disappoint. He started DJing in the late eighties in the New York and Philadelphia club scenes and has since played alongside some of house music’s greats such as Derrick Carter, DJ Dan, Josh Wink, King Britt, Dubtribe, Onionz, Johnny Fiasco and many more. Joining Trevor on the bill are locals Pittsburgh Track Authority, a favorite of ours and a trio certainly deserving of all the attention they have garnered in 2012.

Next up, on Saturday night, El Gallo and VIA team up to bring us Osunlade at 6119. It’s hard to believe a man who began his career producing music for Sesame Street in the eighties and nineties has evolved to what we know today as Osunlade. He is a priest of the Yoruba religion of Ifá, and so, his music has a deep spiritual influence that the promoters are touting as “The World’s house music DJ”. Joining him is local Ed Um, who we did a recent interview with, and Keith Evan all the way from LA.

And finally, techno collective Humanaut celebrates its Out of Order 1-year Anniversary at Belvederes Saturday night with Adam X, a fella you might remember from playing an Out of Order earlier in the year as one half of Traversable Wormhole. The Out of Order event series has been home to many reputable techno events here in Pittsburgh for a year now, so get out to support the Humanaut crew and all they do for the music scene in Pittsburgh! Pro tip: they’re throwing an after party downtown that runs until the wee hours of the morning. More information on that event can be found here.
