Halloween Haps
Does Sandy have you feeling down? Trick or treating was rescheduled for Saturday in the city of Pittsburgh, and it left many with nothing to look forward to on actual Halloween other than blurry memories of past parties. While some of you thought you could have a wholesome Wednesday evening passing out candy to all the kiddies in your neighborhood, we’re here to tell you you’re destined for more. Take this reschedule as a chance to dress up one last time in that costume you either spent way too much money on, way too much effort into making or half-assed it to the point you could seriously use a redo. Unlike last Friday or Saturday nights, tonight is Halloween, so let’s party it up. We’re here to give you a list of options for your Halloween evening.
Club Cafe’s First Annual Halloween Hootenanny features performances from Chet Vincent + Molly Alphabet, Adam and Woody of Triggers, Caleb Pogyor and the Homeless Gospel Choir. The show starts at 8 and is $3 with a costume, $5 without.
Free Movie Night at the Rex: Shaun of the Dead is a great, inexpensive way for the 21+ crowd to spend a night on the town without breaking the bank. This event is BYO snacks and purchasing drinks is highly encouraged, as the venue has to come up with some way to pay for the cost of licensing the film!
Shiny Toy Guns with MNDR & Colour Music at Mr. Smalls is a good bet if you’re looking for an energetic, danceable evening. This isn’t Shiny Toy Guns’ first rodeo in Pittsburgh and MNDR, who was supposed to open for Duran Duran at Stage AE back in August, will finally get her chance to perform here, as the show was cancelled last-minute. Tickets are $18 and the show starts at 8PM.
The Mummies, Pentagram and Neil Young with Crazy Horse at Brillobox features bands with Halloween-themed names and of course, drinks that will knock your socks off and give you a hangover until next Tuesday. This event is $6 and starts at 9PM.
The Wicked Wednesday Halloween Party at Elixir is where you’re likely to find some sexy costumes and sweet beats. The night features jams from Sertac Sahin and Casey Cloonan with special guest Dj Dennis Z and the percussionist extraordinaire of the Timbeleza Drum Project. Sounds like a diverse evening of music! This kicks off at 10 and has no cover.
