Drowning Clowns Album Release Party

Drowning Clowns PittsburghDrowning Clowns, a powerhouse collective of seasoned Pittsburgh musicians, all with very impressive repertoires, are finally set to release their debut album this Saturday. It seems perfectly appropriate to hold the release party in conjunction with Creative.Life.Support’s 2013 Revival Series at Mr. Smalls, as two of the band’s members – Mike Speranzo and Liz Berlin (of Rusted Root) – own the theatre. The “2013 Revival Series” touts itself as a “revolutionary model of local showcases where admission is free for patrons over 21 ($2 for younger folks)” in which each band is paid according to how many free tickets are redeemed at the door.

Drowning Clowns’ all star lineup is rounded out by Frank Spadafora (of Crisis Car), pro skateboarder Evan Smith (DC, Element, Independent), Jesse Prentiss (Ritual Space Travel Agency), Dirk Miller (The Speeds) and Shaggy Marcello (The Distractions). “Part of the appeal is the freshness of the material. It’s not purely rock, not purely anything” states Rege Behe of TribLIVE. “While the raft of musicians might seem to imply a noisy product, the Drowning Clowns actually create musical landscapes that are serenely intricate.”

Self-described as a psychedelic rock orchestra, Drowning Clowns’ Mike Speranzo has been carefully crafting this debut album for the past ten years, which features collaborations and contributions from “many of Pittsburgh’s most gifted musicians”. The evening’s supporting artists are a true testament to that fact – as openers include the likes of Jazzam, Chet Vincent & the Big Bend, Broken Fences, Phat Man Dee and Dave Metty, with an after party hosted by Clinton Clegg and Wreck Loose.

Come out and support some of the ‘Burgh’s biggest talent this Saturday at Mr. Smalls. Doors open at 6PM. Reserve your tickets here.
