1,2,3 – "Work"

New music from up and coming Pittsburgh retro rockers 1,2,3 just hit the interwebs today in the form of the track “Work,” a top-notch leak from the group’s upcoming debut album New Haven, due out on indie powerhouse Frenchkiss Records sometime this summer. This Steel City duo consists of former Takeover UK members Nic Snyder and Josh Sickles who picked up the pieces and created 1,2,3 after their former group’s major label ambitions stalled and prompted a swift breakup. They released their first single “Confetti” in early 2010, but are currently gearing up for their first full-length release, rubbing elbows on a label that can claim bands like Local Natives, Passion Pit and The Hold Steady as their own.

Snyder and Sickles made waves at SXSW this year with their soulful brand of sweaty indie rock doo-wop quality harmonies. “Work” makes a case for their best song yet, combining a stomping, wonky beat, with epic cymbal splashes and a chugging, rusty guitar line. By the time Snyder’s whiteboy/Motown vocals hit the chorus ( I work, I work/For you, for you) the song effortlessly sounds classic and fresh in equal measure. No Pittsburgh dates are lined up for the time being but I’m anticipating that will change before summer’s end. In the meantime, check out the track below along with a link to their interview from The Spinner at SXSW.
