The New Years Eve 2016 Party List

NYE BallIt’s that time of year where everyone puts on their fanciest party dress, drinks copious amounts of champagne and stays up later than usual: New Year’s Eve.

While the unseasonably warm temperatures may not have you in the right mindset to start planning your night, the end of December is fast approaching, and before you know it, it will be time to grab your smooching partner and watch that ball drop.

This year’s options include a diverse array of live music, dance parties and fancy soirées complete with hotel packages, dinner buffets and champagne specials.

Live Music

From 90s throwback jams, to a night of local mystery bands, there’s something for every musical taste if you’re looking to catch some live music New Year’s Eve. Lotus returns for their annual gig at Stage AE, and a group of local and touring musicians come together to celebrate the music of The Meters.

Funky Miracle: a New Years Party Celebrating the Music of The Meters at Thunderbird Cafe
Get funky with friends at Thunderbird Cafe and sway to the sounds of various local bandmates who’ll be coming together for a celebratory occasion. With a grade-A lineup of performers on deck, you’ll have a chance to see these artists deviate from the norm with fresh takes on funk music. The lineup includes Glenn Strother (Jazzam; Chopshop), Kyle Lawson (Old E All Stars), Dave Busch (Wreck Loose), Denny Karl (Boogie Hustlers) and Shawn McGregor (The Commonheart). Doors open at 9PM with a $10 cover. A buffet and champagne toast is included!

Midnight Kisses New Years Eve at Howlers
Jam out at Howlers with rockers from André Costello and the Cool Minors, Sun Hound, and Ghost Gutsover while you enjoy a traditional New Years spread of meats and kraut. A champagne toast is included, and rumor has it, there’s a few additional mystery bands who’ll be joining the evening’s lineup. Doors open at 8PM, and cover is 8 bucks.

Lotus at Stage AE
Lotus returns for their annual gig at Stage AE this year, and if you’ve never seen them live, it’s something you’ll want to consider. The 5-piece collective rarely ever conforms to just one genre; they can rock a room with electric guitars, or get the crowd bumping with synths and samples. Pittsburgh’s own Emerson Jay will join Lotus on the roster to warm up the crowd before the big glittery ball drops at midnight. Tickets ($35) are on sale now, and the party goes off at 8PM.

90sSaved by the 90’s – 105.9 The X Official NYE Party at Altar Bar
We’re on the cusp of the New Year, but maybe you feel like reminiscing this time around. Luckily, Altar Bar’s got you covered with their 90s throwback shindig that’s sure to be one for the books. Sip champagne while you bask in nostalgia and dance to hits from staples of the era–from Nirvana, to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, to Third Eye Blind and Oasis. General admission is $20, and two ticket packages are up for grabs this year. An All-You-Can-Drink package ($65) gets you unlimited access to domestic beer, wine and premium liquor from 8PM-midnight; and the VIP package ($85) will earn you the same perks, plus private balcony access, a waitress and a sandwich tray (6-person minimum). Doors at 9PM!

DJ Dance Parties

The throwback jams theme continues its reign this year with a 90s night dance party at Cattivo. Your favorite Push It DJs Huck Finn and Kelly Fasterchild host a special edition of their party at Brillobox, and Spirit celebrates their first NYE with two floors of music.

Maybe you’re feeling like throwing it back with some more recent material in the R&B, hip hop and electronic music spectrums. 2015 saw a wide selection of notable releases, surprise mixtapes and unexpected collabs and supergroups; and now, you can head over to Cattivo and celebrate it all. Share a complimentary champagne toast at midnight and join DJs Adam-C and Dizcrepancy as you reflect on all the great music that dropped in 2015. Cover is $10, and doors open at 9PM.

Push It Presents: Ball Drop 2 at Brillobox
Push it Presents hosts Huck Finn and Kelly Fasterchild return to Brillo for their second year running, and they’ll be providing the best selection of electro, house and disco tracks to help you ring in 2016. Join them in raising the roof at Bloomfield’s beloved dance haven, and be sure to grab a glass for their complimentary champagne toast at midnight. Party starts at 10PM with a $5 cover.

Gear up for two floors of music and surprises at Spirit’s inaugural NYE celebration. All night long, guests will have a fine selection of choices for their listening pleasures–from DJs dropping dance tunes in the Lodge (Jarrett Tebbets, KEEB$, Tom Brown), to a funky, cultural mashup of performers in the Hall (Beauty Slap, Timbeleza, PANDEMIC). And keep an eye out for unique staples that’ll make you do a double take, including hot tubs, Roller girls, shrimp and champagne towers, and light-up dance floors. It all goes down at 9PM; limited presale tix ($16) are currently available, and $20 tickets will be on sale at the door.

A Night on the Town

This year, Pittsburgh partygoers have plenty of options to treat themselves to a night on the town without having to break the bank. Options include: two free tickets if you book a room at the brand new, buzzworthy Ace Hotel for their ballroom party; a dinner buffet and dessert bar at the chic Iron Gate Inn; plus various champagne/booze packages and giveaways.

NYE 2016 at Iron Gate Inn

The 2016 celebration will be held at the Iron Gate Inn starting at 9PM, and the fun doesn’t end with just music. Guests will also have access to a food buffet, dessert bar and champagne toast upon entry. NYE 2016 at the Goldmark
Lawrenceville’s newest hotspot is gearing up to host their first ever NYE bash, with Goldmark owner DJ Nugget and DJ Midas as your musical entertainment for the evening. With drink specials that are second to none, guests will be able to take full advantage of: an open top-shelf bar (9PM-midnight), a complimentary shot countdown (11:30PM-midnight), a champagne toast, and some tasty hors d’oeuvres to soak up all that booze. In addition, there will be a photographer onsite to capture the night’s memories, so come dressed to impress in your best attire.
