Mardi Gras Pittsburgh EventsWe have an important “holiday” coming up this week, a time when stuffing your face with food and downing pints is considered full of the holiday spirit. Mardi Gras, or as we say in English- Fat Tuesday, is upon us. This is not your average weeknight out. No, Fat Tuesday needs to be planned ahead because it’s not just what or how much you consume, it’s where you go to do so. Fat Tuesday is the last hurrah before Lent begins. Similar to the large Carnival celebrations in Europe and around the world, New Orleans is known for having their giant Mardi Gras celebration; however, you don’t need to head down South in order to wear your multi-colored beads and sparkly masks. We’ve compiled this list of the hottest spots in the 412 to gorge yourself on Cajun cuisine and cover yourself in cheap plastic beads.

Mardi gras 2 pittsburgh eventsIf you’re looking to dance off all of those extra calories you’ll be consuming, these all-night parties are the best places in town to do so.
Mardi Glow at Twelve on Carson kicks off the evening at 8PM. Their $5 cover charge will give you access to live music performances, DJ sets, beads, masks, body painted models, and even someone on site doing body painting if you feel your costume is lacking. Midnight Guru’s 4th Annual Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Party opens next at 9PM at Diesel Club Lounge and is a little easier on the wallet with no cover charge. There will be a costume contest in order to crown the King and Queen of Mardi Gras and a cash prize to the girl wearing the most beads at midnight. Even if you don’t want to dress up, the night will be filled with great beats spun by DJ Mike Ley and drink specials on domestic beers and Fireball shots. Pub I.G. is our last party spot for the night with their Fat Bass Tuesday celebration. This event has a $2 cover charge, $1 for all college students with a valid ID Drink specials and DJs spinning all night is a good enough excuse as any to don those beads, masks, and headgear.

Penn Brewery is hosting their annual Mardi Gras celebration with music from the Red Hot Ramblers and, of course, tons of their in-house brews. Local Bar + Kitchen is having their own Fat Tuesday party with drink specials, beads, masks, and giveaways all evening. Downtown at Little E’s Jazz Club is Revel with a Cause featuring live music from Emily Forst along with complimentary snacks on top of all of the food specials, will take a fun holiday celebration and turn it into a life-changing benefit with all donations going to the Homeless Children’s Education Fund. Back across the Monongahela, a different cultural twist on Fat Tuesday celebrations is going down at Hofbrauhaus. They will be hosting a Fasching Dienstag (German for Fat Tuesday) Celebration all evening with a costume contest and even an in-house face painter from 6-9PM. There will be two live traditional bands performing throughout the night to compliment your pints or liters and Fasching Donuts.

Whether you’re down to party or just looking for a relaxing evening with great music, food, and beer, the Burgh has it all. So be sure to save room for all of the Cajun cuisine and special Mardi Gras drinks and remember to let your food digest before hitting the dance floor.
