The 4th of July Party List
The 4th of July falls on a Friday this year, so that means a killer 3-day weekend of BBQs, sunshine (have you seen the forecast!?), boozin’ with friends and of course, partying. As Pittsburgh continues to step its game up both population and reputation-wise, more and more options arise for fun things to do during the holiday weekend. Here are our top picks to maximize your fun this 4th of July.
The Three Rivers Regatta is this weekend. Enjoy three days of the best in boating, riverside activities and other free fun at Point State Park. Sunday’s Weather Permitting parties at the Shadyside Nursery are free for kids and $10 for adults. This week’s bands include The Beagle Brothers, The Turpentiners, and Broke Stranded & Ugly, as well as yummy food trucks like Oh My Grill and Franktuary. There’s also a free concert with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at Hartwood Acres Sunday.
Dance Til You Drop
As usual, there is no shortage of events to boogie at all weekend long. Hit up Pandemic at Brillobox Thursday, July 3 since you don’t have to work Friday. Cantina’s Gold Series continues Friday with an all-day party full of locals from VIA, Detour and Honcho, as well as headliner J Rocc from Beat Junkies. Belvedere’s is hosting a 4th of July-themed party titled Red White & Bass with local favorites Hank D and Keebs, and Cured continues its pork tradition at Remedy with a hot dog bar and locals Tom Brown b2b with Jose Hamilton. Continue your weekend of fun at Cantina with No Mames, a night of Latin bass hosted by Pandemic with special guest DJ Mafe.
Red, White and Rainbow
Looking for some LGBTQ-friendly action? Look no further than Honcho‘s monthly banger at Hot Mass that will keep you up well into Saturday morning. They’re rolling in a Cub Camp party originally scheduled for Friday with their 2nd annual residents night. It should make for an interesting mix of faux and real furries and be an extra-sweaty affair. Continuing a never-ending string of legit drag performances here in Pittsburgh, there’s also an appearance by RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Lola LeCroix appearing as Adore Delano Thursday night at Cavo. You might recognize Adore from season 7 of American Idol.
Art N’ At
Unblurred is going all out for the holiday with a special two-day celebration on Thursday and Friday with BBQs and extra special events happening at almost every stop. Be sure to stop by the newly-opened BOOM Concepts and see one of Penn Avenue’s newest spaces! If biking is more your thing, consider stopping by the grand opening party for Banker Supply, a new urban cycling lifestyle shop in East Lib. And don’t worry, there will be booze courtesy of Sailor Jerry. If writing’s your thang, check out Wigle Whiskey‘s new North Side location for a poetry sesh with The Morning Mimosas Writers where they will read and talk about their craft.
With plenty of concert options, there’s something for every taste to catch this holiday weekend. Holy Ghost Tent Revival hits the buzzworthy Pittsburgh Winery Thursday, July 3. Experimental rockers Swans hit the Rex Theater with Xiu Xiu Thursday as well. Stage AE continues their summer season with the soul of Fitz & the Tantrums, and FarmJammaLamma is back for its seventh year July 4-6. If you were lucky enough to snag tickets to the sold-out Say Anything show Sunday at Mr. Smalls, we’re jealous. Have a good time this weekend, everyone! And keep it safe!
