The Anamanaguchi Giveaway
New York’s Anamanaguchi is coming to Mr. Smalls! The electronic rock band, comprised of lead guitarist Peter Berkman, bassist James DeVito, guitarist Ary Warnaar and drummer Luke Silas is known for its chiptune sound with a conventional four-piece instrument overlay. On Wednesday, December 18 at 8PM, you can check it out. They’re bringing their Endless Fantasy tour to Pittsburgh with RSK and tickets are available for $12. But we have your hook up to win two free tickets in our giveaway!
Chiptune, a mostly underground genre, is synthesized electronic music made from, or emulated to sound like old-school video games and computers. Back in the early 80s, as people started upgrading technology, there were a lot of older, unused machines left lying around like Atari, NES, Game boy, Sega, etc. It became a new means to make music and one that has really influenced EDM leading into the 21st century.
To fund their most recent album, Anamanaguchi began a Kickstarter crowdsourcing campaign on May 3 earlier this year. In less than twelve hours, they reached their goal of $50,000. With a grand total of $277,399 raised, their second studio LP, Endless Fantasy released eleven days later on May 14. It debuted at number one on Billboard’s Heatseeker’s Chart for new recording artists and was the second most successful Kickstarter campaign at that time. They performed the title track on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon back in June.
In the past three years, Anamanaguchi lent tracks and composed music for several videos games like Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game, the arcade style Bit. Trip Runner and Rock Band. Plus if you’re a fan of Chris Hardwick’s The Nerdist Podcast, you might recognize their song, “Jetpack Blues, Sunset Hues” as the theme song. You’ve probably been hearing their music without even realizing it!
