The Presidents of the United States of America Giveaway
The Presidents of the United States of America (sometimes known as PUSA, Pot USA, or The Presidents) are an American classic. You know of their 90s hits “Peaches” and “Lump,” and anytime those tunes come on, we all fight back the urge to sing as loud as we can. With those pervasive, timeless hits, it’s no surprise that they also have a dedicated fanbase that support their six studio albums. The Presidents have garnered a bit of critical acclaim as well, with two Grammy award nominations during their career so far. You can see them here at Pittsburgh’s Altar Bar on Wednesday, August 13 at 7:30PM with openers In The Whale.
The group formed during 1993 in Seattle, and still has three of their four original members. By 1994, The Presidents were on their way to the kind of fame that their name deserved and they had secured an eternal position in 90s rock nostalgia. They’ve been through their ups and downs since then, with two break-ups and two make-ups as well as some line-up changes. Due to their presidential name, they’ve been lightly involved in left-wing politics, showing support for Democratic presidents and candidates from Bill Clinton to Barack Obama. They even feature former governor of Washington Gary Locke in background vocals for their song “Volcano.”
Their newest albums, Kudos To You and Thanks For The Feedback, came about at the same time from a PledgeMusic campaign at the end of last year. In February 2014, they released the two albums–their first in five years. Like all their other work, The Presidents of the United States of America have remained firm in their mission not to take themselves too seriously while providing subtly thoughtful lyrics to their listeners and fans. Their irony and fun-loving attitude goes deep down to their name itself, and their commitment to that pursuit has gained them respect that will carry on for years to come.
