Surfer Blood Giveaway
Singer and guitarist Paul Pitts and drummer T. J. Schwarz have known each other since their days in high school. At first, they each roamed around in different bands. They would sometimes play together or play at the same gigs, but the group didn’t form until 2009 when Pitts and Schwarz joined up with guitarist Thomas Fekete, bassist Brian Black, and percussionist Marcos Marchesani at an Ultra Music Festival after-party. To really start promoting their music, they each dropped out of college and toured heavily. That hard work paid off with their appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, their world tour, their debut album with Kanine Records, Astro Coast , and their later signing to major label, Warner Bros. Records.
However, everything hasn’t come out sugary sweet for them since. In March of 2012, police arrested Pitts for domestic battery against his girlfriend at the time. Although the case was eventually dropped, the band suffered a tarnished reputation. Adding to their problems, right before they made their 2013 video for their song “Say Yes To Me,” Warner Bros. Records dropped Surfer Blood from their label.
But, the group continued to press forth and pour their feelings into their most current album, Pythons. The album, despite coming from a rocky time for the band, maintains a sunny feel in spite of the sometimes tortured lyrics. It’s optimism in a world turned upside down. It’s a little bit of hope mixed in a sea of despair. Doors open at 9pm and the show starts at 9:30pm. Buy your tickets to catch them in Pittsburgh here or enter our giveaway below.
