Soweto Gospel Choir Giveaway
Using a mix of popular American music, gospel, and reggae to create their unique sound, the Soweto Gospel Choir is coming to Pittsburgh to share their harmonious voices. The choir has 24 strong-voiced members, who all contribute to the powerful music directed by Beverly Bryer. Founded in Soweto, South Africa, the group focuses on spreading their message of joy and faith to people all around the world.
The group won a Grammy in 2007 and 2008 for “Best Traditional World Music Album” and even collaborated with Peter Gabriel for the song “Down to Earth”, featured in the Disney-Pixar film WALL-E. They have since released another album titled Grace, which continues down their path of worldly, joyous melodies.
On top of the countless awards Soweto Gospel Choir wins every year, they also devote themselves to charity work. They created their own AIDS orphan foundation called Nkosi’s Haven Vukani, which uses generous donations made at the choir’s concerts to help support families in South Africa devastated from AIDS. They have successfully promoted awareness of this issue all across the world, raising over $1.5 million as of January 2014.
