This diverse rockabilly trio started one day in 2008, when Norah, typically a solo artist, decided she wanted to start a band. She teamed up with her BFFs, Dobson and Popper, and the three of them got to work writing new songs and learning how to play new instruments. Before long, Puss N Boots was born.

These three never had thoughts about sold out shows and going platinum. On their own, the friends have already enjoyed successful careers. Jones has won Grammys, Dobson has made a name for herself as a jazz singer/songwriter, and Popper had played bass, double bass, and performed back-up vocals for Ryan Adams & the Cardinals. With their new band, they wanted something different. They honestly just wanted to turn out some tunes together at bars in front of their friends when they could find the time to get together. Soon enough, people started to form lines out the door to see them, and begged them for an album. Six years later, they decided to record a live show. That way, their fans could have a close experience to one of their intimate concerts.

As such came their anticipated debut album, No Fools, No Fun, released by Blue Note Records. On the album, the trio has five original songs, where each of them share the spotlight by alternating vocal duties, and seven cover songs, including Neil Young’s “Down By the River.” The album departs a little from their usual melancholy and soulful sound to something more upbeat.

On October 4th, Puss N Boots will perform at Mr. Smalls Theatre for an 8PM performance with special guests Van Hayride. Doors open at 7PM.  You can buy a ticket here, or you can press your luck and enter to win tickets in our giveaway.
