J. Phlip Brings Acid Booty-Tech Bass to the ‘Burgh – Giveaway
Goddess of dirtybird Records, Jessica Phillippe (aka J. Phlip), has not only worked alongside and within one of the most proper and highly regarded record labels in dance music; but she’s immersed herself in music culture from around the world, traveling into the depths of Europe – and even maintaining a short residency in Berlin – to perfect her craft.
Within the past few years alone, the fierce female DJ/producer has embarked on multiple world tours; released numerous tracks, reworks, and compilations (most recently, her “Walls” EP collab with Chris Lorenzo); performed at heavyweight clubs and large scale music festivals; and scored various residencies in major cities (Detroit, Miami, San Francisco).
At just 19 years old, the Champaign, Illinois native purchased a low cost set of belt-drive decks and a mixer, and while simultaneously working towards an Engineering degree, she got to work on making her passion for music and production a reality. After winning a DJ competition in 2005, Phillippe was jetsetting full speed ahead on a nationwide tour, making moves to Chicago and San Francisco (along with her 3-year stint in Berlin), and eventually linking up with dirtybird bossman, Claude Vonstroke.
See her live once and you’ll immediately recognize the beauty she radiates from within; her grit, endurance, and true passion is evident in the energy that she puts forth on the decks.
After riding out a long wave of tour dates for her “Everybody On the Floor” Tour in 2014, we are pleased to share that J. Phlip is coming through Pittsburgh for a very special night next weekend. Event curators at Daily Bread are aiming to please, hoping to give guests a trill, sweaty night of “acid booty-tech bass and beyond.”
Don’t just take our word for it. Take a listen to her closing set from last year’s Movement Detroit festival below:
The underground-warehouse-esque-style shindig goes down at local DIY recycled bike collective, Free Ride, on Friday, March 20 at 9PM; and it’ll kick off with opening support from local favorites, DETOUR and Pittsburgh Track Authority.
Tickets are $15, and all door profits will benefit our lovable furry friends at the Animal Rescue League; so get your booty down to Free Ride and bounce the night away.
We’re giving away two free tickets, as well. Enter our giveaway below for a chance to score a set for you and a friend!
