Since its inception in 1990, Pittsburgh’s Extra Mile Education Foundation got its start with one key mission in mind: to provide a quality education to urban children. The organization’s name symbolizes an important message, as it reflects upon the gospel challenge that when someone is in need, help is given; even if it means going the extra mile. By utilizing both financial assistance and scholarship support, the program has allowed children from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade the opportunity to blaze their own paths of success.

Now, Extra Mile is preparing to celebrate their 25th anniversary, and you’re invited to join the party! Take a trip down memory lane, all the way back to your grade school days, and embrace your inner youthful spirit at their celebration commencement – appropriately deemed the “Field Trip.”

Field Trip is exactly what it sounds like: an adult-ified version of the coveted escapes we’d be granted from the classroom as children. And plenty of food and fun will be provided for all that are in attendance!Photo Cred: Extra Mile

Guests are encouraged to visit with several animal friends that’ll be onsite from the PPG Aquarium and Pittsburgh Zoo, as well as a penguin from the National Aviary of Pittsburgh and Spinosaurus from the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. Guests will also enjoy gourmet grade school lunches that’ll include many childhood favorites and cafeteria staples, like “chicken nugget” tenderloins with truffle mac n’ cheese; “Sloppy Joes,” prepared with ground beef, peppers, and onions on a brioche bun and served with Yukon Gold whipped potatoes; grilled cheese sandwiches created with short rib and served with Stout Cheddar soup; and petite corn dogs served with corn grits and spicy cider mustard. Keeping in spirit with the reminiscence theme, we’ll also be jamming out to some throwback tunes from Pittsburgh’s DJ Selecta.
