Record label, event host, artist collective, and 412-certified are just few terms describing Pittsburgh based talent group, DETOUR, and its diversified individuals. Since the group’s conception at CMU during time sharing their talents on WRCT radio, they’ve resided at the crossroads of house and techno, maintaining a goal to combine these forces among other crucial components. No matter the movement, their intended outcome is a stimulatory pleasing experience; thus, illustrating getting lost in the mood while getting down to good music.

DETOUR provides dance floor therapy in its finest form; the group has encompassed an opportune environment for guests at events by putting forth a visually stimulating, aesthetically sound atmosphere with superior talent selection and quality music to let loose to. (A full list of the collective’s members and bios can be found on DETOUR’s website.)

On Friday, April 10, DETOUR is hosting DJ/producer Hunee as their next upcoming featured guest at Hot Mass. The Amsterdam-born, Berlin based artist has been in the thick of the German underground music scene for around a decade now. As a producer, he’s well-crafted and technically oriented, paying homage to music history while vamping things up with a flair that’s all his own. As a DJ, you’ll find him spinning anything that’s soulful and inspiring – from house to disco, to afro and techno.

With roots in rap and soul, Hunee got his start while dabbling in work and play at local record stores, eventually linking up with Berlin’s music community and learning the ropes of production. He has since released music on several labels since 2009, including Rush Hour, Future Times and W.T. Some would say Berlin has left an imprint on Hunee; others may concur that Hunee’s left an imprint on Berlin. According to his Resident Advisor bio, the artist “eats bumpin’ disco for breakfast, heats up deep jackin’ music for lunch, and slows it soulfully down for dinner.”

“In the night, he prefers to spend his time cookin’ a special meal on the turntables,” Hunee’s bio also states. Which is exactly what you’ll be witnessing during his visit to Pittsburgh on April 10. The show is happening at Hot Mass and starts at 11PM ($15 cover), with opening support from DETOUR’s resident artists, Gusto and Naeem (pictured right).
