If you can’t make it to the beach this summer, check out Beach House when they perform in Pittsburgh on August 22.

After meeting through the Baltimore indie music scene in 2004, Victoria Legrand (vocals; organ) and Alex Scally (guitar) formed Beach House. Their first single, “Apple Orchard,” was featured on Pitchfork in 2006, and the duo released their first self-titled album later that year, with a follow-up album, “Devotion,” through Carpark Records in 2008.

Beach House then transferred to label Sub Pop Records in 2010 and recorded their third and fourth albums, “Teen Dream” (2010) and “Bloom,” (2012) as well as their highly anticipated fifth album, “Depression Cherry,” which will be released later this month. Switching from the use of program drums, Beach House expanded to using a live drummer for the release of “Teen Dream” and beyond.

Following the release of their new single, “Sparks,” and promoting the August 28 release of “Depression Cherry,” Beach House will commence on a 51-city tour across the US, the UK and Europe from August to December.

In contrast to their two previous albums, “Depression Cherry” takes a step back from the louder melodies of “Teen Dream” and “Bloom” to return to the roots of their earlier albums. “The larger stages and bigger rooms naturally drove us towards a louder, more aggressive place; a place farther from our natural tendencies. Here, we continue to let ourselves evolve while fully ignoring the commercial context in which we exist,” Beach House stated on their Sub Pop Records page.

Returning to Pittsburgh after a five year absence, Beach House makes its fifth tour stop with opener, Romantic States, at Mr. Smalls on Saturday, August 22. Doors open at 7PM, tickets are $25 and can be purchased now. You can also try your luck by entering our giveaway below for a chance to win two free tickets:
