Each year the ToonSeum hosts a special fundraiser that’s right up our alley. Illustration Ale is brewed by East End Brewing Company, and the labels are designed by six local artists. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each 750ml (wine-sized) bottle will directly benefit the ToonSeum. Now that’s the kind of fundraising we can really get behind!

Illustration Ale is a bottle-conditioned Belgian specialty ale,”brewed with a farmhouse ale yeast which adds spice and nuance to the rich, dark malt character.” The ale is brewed exclusively for ToonSeum in a limited edition run of 1600 bottles. While once available only at local bars and restaurants, you can now purchase East End beers at one of their two locations, the new, bigger brewery in East Liberty (that you can tour!) or at the Pittsburgh Public Market.

This year’s Illustration Ale will feature labels by Sarah Miller (of Ink Master fame), the provocative work of Lizzee Solomon, The Rots creater Nora Thompson, Jessica Heberle of Artists Meetup, strawberryluna comprised of illustrators, Allison & Craig, and Ilene Winn-Lederer, whose work has been featured in The New York Times. Below are designs from last year.

2013’s designs will be unveiled this Thursday, December 5th at 7PM at the ToonSeum. Guests will get to sample the brew, meet with past and present artists, (may be even get them to sign their designs!) and explore the current exhibition at the museum featuring Hagar the Horrible. Your $25 ticket will include one complimentary beer by the artist of your choosing. The beer will also be available for purchase, so be sure to collect all six 2013 designs!
