Beer Enthusiasts Assemble for Meeting Of The Malts III

In December 2010, a seemingly ragtag dozen breweries met at the Victory Brewing Company in Downingtown, PA for the very first time. The meeting was called due to a shared opposition among the group against antiquated distribution laws in Pennsylvania that proved to be limiting independent brewers’ access to the market. Even more than their shared opposition, it was the resounding love of fine beer that ultimately glued these representatives together as the founding members of an organization soon to be known as Brewers Of Pennsylvania.

On March 27, 2014, a little more than three years after their first private summit, Brewers of Pennsylvania (BOP) hosted the inaugural “Meeting of the Malts” Beer Summit, an event organized to encourage beer buffs to come together and share a cold one with some of the most influential independent brewers in the game. Names such as Dick Yuengling (Yuengling), Jim Koch (Sam Adams), and Sam Calagione (Dogfish Head)  united in the public eye for the first time, hosting a panel discussion on the state of the beer industry in PA.TxTrib-BeerBrewery-JV098_jpg_800x1000_q100

BOP will be holding their third Meeting of the Malts congregation on January 22, 2015. Hosted by the Priory Hotel in Northside, the summit will be launched at 5PM, and will include a pre-summit sampling of unique and creatively cultivated brews, provided by Bill Covaleski founder of Victory Brewing Company. ($20).

Following the sampling the summit will include the traditional panel discussion; this time the panel attributes special emphasis on craft beer, as well as innovations that have been made within the field in recent years. The discussion features Bill Covaleski (Victory Brewing), Chris Trogner (Troegs Brewing), Artie Tafoya (Appalachian Brewing), and Scott Smith (East End Brewing), and will be moderated by Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Food Editor and Craft Beer Enthusiast Bob Batz Jr. The panel will also include a five course meal paired with (you guessed it) more beer! ($60)

The summit will be wrapped up with more festivities and beer from 9:30-11PM in a post-panel party organized by Troegs Brewing Company. ($20)

Beer buffs who wish to participate in all three events can purchase VIP tickets, available for $95.
