Georgia’s ambient punk-rockers, Deerhunter, return to Pittsburgh after the release of their latest album, “Fading Frontier,” this past fall. After several line-up changes and a slew of traumatic incidents, the group’s put their all into their latest work, drawing inspiration from experience and music samples all over the spectrum–from The Rolling Stones, to Sonic Youth, to The Breeders and girl-group pop. This spring, One Northside Pgh partners with the Buhl Foundation for The Block Party–the first of five events taking place in Spring Hill this year. The Block Party is a series of mini arts festivals that celebrates the local identities of PGH’s Northside neighborhoods. The party goes down in the new Asylgärten Park, a lot owned by the Spring Hill Civic League, and currently undergoing renovations as a future community space. The free festival features local bands delicious pastries, Brewer’s Row and The Get Down Gang, performing on the Flyspace Productions mobile stage; stories about the neighborhood being collected onsite by The Saturday Light Brigade; hands-on activities with Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse and Little House Big Art; onsite food trucks, refreshments, and much more!
