0h850h85 “Feel Cold” EP Release Party

Last week, 0h85 graced us with his presence at the beloved brillobox monthly, Lazercrunk; now, he’s dropping his debut EP by way of emerging PGH label, La Squadra Records. Join him for the release of “Feel Cold” on Thursday, and get down to his latest sounds. DJs Babyteeth and Naeem will be on board for opening support.

“Groove Theory” with Steely Dang & Selecta

Lawrenceville’s new hotspot shakes things up on a Thursday night with their monthly installment of “Groove Theory,” a tribute to soul music at its finest. Top-notch selectors DJ Selecta & Steely Dang will be on the decks pumping out a blend of funky, soulful grooves to caress your ear drums.

In 2014, composer Gabrielle Herbst (aka GABI) commissioned and premiered her first opera, “Bodiless.” Now, she’s traveling to Pittsburgh via Brooklyn to grace the Warhol theater with an ethereal vocal performance supporting her debut compilation, “Symphony.” She’ll be complimented by the otherworldly sounds of PGH dream-pop trio, Sleep Experiments.

Presented by eight artists, “Sit Still” will focus on 15 visual and conceptual splitting and doubling works to explore the effects of duplication in portraiture. A selection of historical photographic portraits will remind viewers of traditional conventions and restrictions of the portrait studio, as well as its history of both an aesthetic and identifying genre. Presented with doubles, viewers will be challenged to conceptualize and question the stability of likeness and accurate representations among each photo.

battery lifeBattery Life Screening

Battery Life, a stop motion short film, was created by locals with a small budget and big ambitions. Together, they created a vision full of life, color, symmetry and sound–surrounded by motifs of determination, self-sacrifice and deceit. Join the creators on Saturday for wine, beer, a private screening of Battery Life, and dance tracks provided by DJ Duke.

The AFROHEAT! dance party collective is gearing up for another solid year full of “sweat and smiles.” Get out on the floor and get loose to deep funky basement beats of the past, present and future–ranging from Afrobeat, Afrohouse, Afrolatin, Afrofuture and AfroBrazilian.

Step out and shake off those winter blues at the next Hot Mass late-night special. NY’s Pixelife will bring forth an emotional blend of house and techno tracks to get you on your feet and in your feels. Hometown favorites PTA will be heating up the floor prior to Pixelife’s Pittsburgh performance.

Thanks to diehard creatives and dedicated local leaders, our artist community will once again prove it’s a force to be reckoned with at the annual Strip District Music Festival–a day-long, immersive local gathering that’ll saturate the Strip with talent from across the music spectrum. pickleBake Sale 4 Pickle

Stop by for homemade goods and good company at Spirit’s bake sale benefiting Pickle the dog–a playful, lovable pup who’s in need of minor ear surgery so he can live his pup life more comfortably and “fly like Dumbo once again.” Pickles favorite DJs Ricky Moslen, Glowworms and Kate Sweeney will be providing the jams for the evening. Be sure to take home treats and a pic from the photobooth!
