World AIDS Day – PGH Style

AIDS. Nobody likes it, but it’s something we have to deal with. As someone who knows a person who has passed as a result of the disease, I do not take it lightly. If you know someone whose had or has it, or are simply passionate about the cause, this post’s for you! December 1 is internationally recognized as World AIDS Day, and we’re here to show you how you can get in on the action and support raising funds and awareness for this terrible affliction.

Eat out! The following restaurants will be donating a portion of the day’s proceeds to (Pittsburgh) RED: Abay Ethiopian Cuisine, The Quiet Storm, La Gourmandine Bakery, Legume, Pittsburgh Cafe, Round Corner Cantina, Tana Ethiopian Cuisine, Square Cafe, Elements Contemporary Cuisine, and Lincoln’s P&G Diner. YUM!

Press Conference with Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, 10:30 AM, Lobby, City-County Building

Flash Mob in Market Square, noon

Candlelight Vigil, 6 PM, Corner of Forbes & Morewood Avenues, Oakland

24th Annual World AIDS Day Memorial Service, Heinz Chapel, 7 PM

7th Annual Red Ribbon Gala, Omni William Penn Hotel, 7 PM, 412-973-9524

Kickoff Party, Cruze Bar on Smallman in the Strip District, 8-10 PM

Free HIV Rapid Testing, 9 AM-9 PM, GLCC, 210 Grant Street

HIV Testing in the ACHD Testing Van, 900 Block of Liberty Avenue, 10 PM-1 AM

Also important to mention, HIV testing is available this and every week at the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force, located at 5913 Penn Ave., Second Floor, in East Lib. Hours are:
Sunday: Noon to 4PM
Monday: 9AM to 5PM
Tuesday: 9AM to 5PM
Wednesday: 9AM to 7:30PM
Thursday: 9AM to 7:30PM
Friday: 9AM to 5PM
*Rapid HIV testing is offered every day except Friday and Sunday.
