pittsburgh-transparent500BY165Universe Network Television (UNTV) is an online channel broadcasting movement that’s taking the country by storm and has made its way to the ‘Burgh. Unlike other self-streaming sites, such as U-Stream, UNTV prides itself on having 100% control over its content. The Miami-based company focuses on showcasing local talent as well as celebrities without censorship. The network is gaining quite the audience, with over a million clicks a month and now, they’re working on a new Pittsburgh based channel to broadcast to a worldwide audience titled Universe Pittsburgh.

If you’re looking for a chance to get involved with a growing underground movement, UNTV is it. With the goal of becoming the next MTV (think circa 1990s, sans reality TV), they’re giving each city the opportunity to showcase what music and culture is unique to them while tracking popular trends. So far, UNTV has hit it big across the country with stations in Miami, Houston, New York, Hawaii, Chicago and more.

To get the movement jump-started in Pittsburgh, UNTV is looking to recruit DJs, filmmakers, aspiring television hosts and music venues to get involved.  Local artists and excited fans who make their own “I Want My UNTV – Pittsburgh” video (like the one below), share it on all social media sites, and tag #UNTV, have the opportunity to be included in the Universe Pittsburgh launch video. Everyone is encouraged to submit ideas for content that they want to contribute to the channel for the underground universe to see. Entries for consideration can be submitted through music or video files here. Those interested in producing their own show or becoming an advertiser should contact Kaaren Styles at kaaren@universemiami.com.

Some Pittsburgh locals have already jumped on board, such as producer/graphic designer Jason Moment Jones.  Comedians OG Bussamove and Mama Tea have shared their work while the UNTV Pittsburgh production team has hand picked videos from local music artists such as Mr. O2tha, Kellee Maize, Boaz, and Basick Sickness. Take a look at the shows on Universe Miami and just imagine how Universe Pittsburgh could represent.
