Get out your zoot suits and prepare for a full weekend of swing dance soirees. No Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau will not be in attendance, but “Swingers”-mania is still going strong. PittStop is hosting the 13th Annual LindyHop Weekend November 22nd-24th at various venues around town. Apparently it’s a pretty big deal, with people traveling to the Burgh from all over to participate in the non-stop swing dance socials. This year features 7 different dances including ‘late night’ parties going until 5am!
The festivities kick off on Friday at Soldiers and Sailors Hall in Oakland from 8pm til midnight, featuring Dr Zoot and his 7 piece band. After that the after party moves to the Strip District at The Pittsburgh Opera Building from 1am til the day dawns at 5am. Guests can enjoy The Solomon Douglas Sextet, featuring Alison Dreyfuss, as well as Lindy DJs spinning in a separate room.
Saturday is jam packed with activities, so be sure to save your energy! It kicks off at Soldiers and Sailors again, with Lindy DJs from 1-5pm. Then beginning at 8pm, Gordon Webster and his 8 Piece band will perform until midnight, following by a venue change back to the Opera, where Webster will also perform during the late night after party. The after party goes until 5am again, and will also have Lindy DJs spinning til day break.
If you’re still up for dancing after that marathon, don’t worry, it keeps going! The party moves to CMU’s Rangos Ballroom starting at 1pm with local favorites The Boilermaker Jazz Band playing until 5pm. The weekend wraps up with an encore performance by The Solomon Douglas Sextet, featuring Alison Dreyfuss at the same venue from 8-11pm. Tickets for the weekend are $70 and include all 7 events.
