Pittsburgh Startup Weekend
If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, or a creative startup concept, then we have the event for you! Startup Weekend goes down in Pittsburgh September 21st- 23rd at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater. What is Startup Weekend you ask? This global grassroots movement is a boot camp for wanna be entrepreneurs with workshops, lectures, coaching and networking. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs, with over 400 past events in 100 countries around the world in 2011.
So how does it work? Anyone is welcome to join the event by registering here, you can be a developer, designer, a student, or just business/marketing focused. You will arrive Friday evening at 5:30 to sign in, followed by some dinner and networking. Later that night everyone will share their pitch with the group and then a vote will take place to choose the top ideas and form teams to work on each idea over the weekend. The real fun begins Saturday, as teams are finalized and begin work shopping their concepts with coaches. There will be some speakers on Saturday as well, included Eric Silver, Founder of Webkite, and Krishna Pendyala, COO & Coach at Waldron Wealth Management. Sunday will consist of finalizing participants’ concepts, followed by presentations of each plan and ending with judging and awards.
Any idea is welcome, so if you’ve have a brilliant concept waiting on the back burner this is a great chance to ignite your dreams and kick it off the ground. It seems like just yesterday that Nakturnal and NakYouOut were just a twinkle in our eye, and we can certainly attest to the hard work and planning it takes to start your own business! We highly encourage you to sign up and start down the path to your making your dream a reality.
