Be BraveNow that Pennsylvania has finally joined the 20th century and changed the tides of our commonwealth’s old ways by legalizing gay marriage, its LGBTQ and ally population has some partying to do. It’s a good thing Pride is just around the corner! Your perfect opportunity to let loose and celebrate the marriage equality victory, as well as being OUT and proud is happening June 6-15 during this year’s Pittsburgh Pride celebration, a part of national Pride month. We’ve got the low down on all the haps, and a giveaway for pridegoers who like to party extra hard. You have a hell of a lot to look forward to with 2014’s festivities, which include some new surprises, old favorites, and divas galore.

impulseThere are a lot more Pride-related activities than just Pride weekend. Consider heading to the Pittsburgh Pride Theater Festival June 5th for “Acting Out“, which will showcase four LGBTQ one-act plays at the Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company. There’s also the Annual Pride Beach Party at 941 Saloon, and Pittsburgh’s premier lesbian party, Impulse, is hosting their Pre-Pride Party this Saturday, June 7th at Mr. Smalls.

Pittsburgh Pride 2014The Delta Foundation‘s core pride events are too lengthy to list in detail, but new this year are their Fabulous Gay Fridays, which began May 30 with a free Martha Walsh concert and continue this Friday, June 6 at noon in Market Square with renowned Britney Spears impersonator Derrick Barry. This year’s Pride in the Street headliner, Chaka Khan, is the perfect booking to maintain the fierceness of this year’s pride, which finds many a diva on its way to Pittsburgh to hold it down. Other highlights include Equality on Ellsworth June 8, the legendary Splash! party at the Mt. Washington mansion, AKA the Herforth & Karlovich Party Palace, and the Pride Pub Crawl June 13. Tickets for all events can be purchased here. And don’t forget to support what Pride’s really all about during the Pittsburgh Pride Month Declaration in City Council Chambers June 10 and the Pride March, which you can still register for here. A full calendar of events can be found on their site.

Those of you looking to get a little wild can hit up the male-oriented “A Totally Verse Pride Weekend“, presented by Pittsburgh’s very own Honcho (and friends). Honcho is making some headway in the dance music scene nationally, as it just hosted a party at Macho City in Detroit during Memorial Day’s Movement Electronic Music Festival. They’ll also be presenting events in Denver and Philly during the month for their Pride celebrations to round out a tour de force of Pittsburgh-style homo fun times. These shindigs are NOT for the faint of heart, so if you’re more likely to be on the couch on a Friday night watching Golden Girls reruns, you might wanna skip these events. If you’re ready to strap on your party balls, you’re in luck. They’ve teamed up with folks like Sharon Needles, Pgh Bro Club, Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force, Men’s Room – DJ’s Harry Cross+Jpeg, A Bearded Boy and Round Corner Cantina to host a series of “DI(VERS)E and unusual” events that range from a drag show at Cruze on Friday the 13th, a “boy’s only” afterhours sesh at Club Pittsburgh, and a boat party on a fantasy yacht Sunday the 15th. They even went all out with their promo, which features some of the city’s sexiest fellas:

They’d also like to remind you what an epic time the boat party was last year, in case you were on the fence. WHY would you pass up the opportunity to party with a bunch of hot dudes on a boat!? You cray.

What they’re best known for, though, are killer LGBTQ and ally-friendly dance parties at Hot Mass, and this weekend will be no different. “Honchothon” will take place Saturday, June 14 at Hot Mass from 10PM-7AM and features Discodromo & Juan Ramos from Berlin, as well as residents Aaron Clark and Ed Um. We’ve got two passes and t-shirts to give away for this epic affair, so sign up below. Better yet, snag your tickets for the entire weekend here and skip the suspense.
