art walkSpring has sprung, and summer is on its way. Now’s the time to enjoy the sunshine, go on vacations, and take in the great outdoors. If you’re tired of strolling the same streets, check out Warm Weather Walks First Friday ArtWalks on Ellsworth Ave in Shadyside. This summer gallery crawl series began May 2, but has additional dates on June 6, July 11, August 1, and September 5. The first Friday of each month (with the exception of July due to Independence Day plans), from 5:30-8:30PM, you can enjoy live music, check out the local businesses, and nosh on some food truck favorites.

Activities begin at the intersection of Ellsworth and Maryland Avenues, later meandering up to the Pedestrian Bridge. A little past the bridge, let the Steel City Improv Theater entertain you. They’re performing at 8PM during each walk. For the artistically-minded, Gallerie Chiz, Morgan Glass Gallery and Mendelson Gallery will show their permanent collections and other special openings on Ellsworth Avenue.

For dinner, local food trucks will park in a small lot on Ellsworth just before the bridge. Check out Pittsburgh Taco Truck at each walk, and find Pittsburgh Crepes Truck, BRGR Truck, and Bella Christie and Lil Z’s Sweet Boutique rotating all summer long. Don’t be afraid to stray off the path to visit other local bars and restaurants for a perfect Friday night in Shadyside.
