Summer’s so close, you can almost taste it! Why not pick up a new hobby for those hot summer days? While everyone else is crowding at the pool getting sunburnt, you can opt to chill with a local artist and create a masterpiece to hang in your living room. We suggest attending MakerDate 2014, presented by Assemble on Saturday, May 17 at the Kaufmann Center.

Assemble is bringing together local and regional artists, craft makers, designers, innovators, and skill-owners at its second annual MakerDate fundraising event. This fun-filled occasion takes the concept of date auctioning and spins it into a learning experience for those who want to try something new. MakerDate gives attendees the chance to bid on “dates” with artists, crafters, or technologists who will spend the evening with them to create something or to gain a new creative skill.

The auction/main event will take place this Saturday, May 17th. Each highest bidder and artist will set up a ‘date’ and meet at a separate venue depending on what they decide to craft. The prize must take place within 30 days of the MakerDate event, and can range from 2-5 hours.

Last year, MakerDate welcomed 150 attendees, along with 18 artists and makers.  The event raised funds for STEAM educational programs, which aims to bring FUNctional literacy to everyone. This year, Assemble is expecting to host a bigger and better event with live music, drinks, and a silent auction along with the main event.

Tickets are going like hot cakes, so get them fast! Regular ticket prices are $30, and VIP tickets are $100. VIP tickets get you access to hands-on making stations, food and drinks, time to meet the makers before everyone else, the first shot at the silent auction, art demos, special performances, a swag bag full of gifts, and a chance to meet Assemblers and the Board. The VIP ticket package sounds like a pretty good deal. Who wouldn’t want a swag bag?!
