SycnedWhats’ a movie without sound? Some might say a silent film. Or some filmmakers may call it a ‘rookie mistake.’ But on Friday, May 16, silent shorts by Pittsburgh’s finest filmmakers will be accompanied by the live, original music of The Garment District and Casual Male to create SYNC’D.

This Pittsburgh-based independent film and music event takes place at different venues around the city. This year SYNC’D is located at The New Bohemian, nestled inside a former Czech Catholic Church on the North Side.  Doors open at 7:30PM and the shorts start at 8PM. For just $8 you get refreshments and the movie, plus live music.

The list of filmmakers for the evening include:

  • Alex Knell
  • Padraic Driscoll
  • Kyle Van Noy
  • Gena Salorino
  • Andrew Daub & Bryan Heller
  • Joseph L. Flatley
  • Rem Lezar
  • Michael Maraden
  • Bruce Meyers & Jonathan Otte
  • Dadpranks
  • Susan Houseman.

Think you have a lot on your plate? The Garment District’s multi-instrumentalist, Jennifer Baron, can top it! In addition to her musical life, she is also a founding member of Brooklyn’s The Ladybug Transistor (Merge), co-coordinator of Handmade Arcade, Pittsburgh’s first and largest indie DIY craft fair, and co-editor/contributing photographer for the award-winning book, Pittsburgh Signs Project: 250 Signs of Western Pennsylvania (Carnegie Mellon Press, 2010).  She still makes time for her passion in music, and later this year The Garment District’s new full-length album will be released on vinyl via Night-People. You can check out their music at SYNC’D, a future Warhol Museum Silver Studio Session that can be watched live online here, or below.  Enjoy!
