H'Art & Soul Of Haiti Featuring Tom Tom Club
80s new wave veterans Tom Tom Club are set to hit Pittsburgh this Friday for a benefit for the Friends of Hôpital Albert Schweitzer in Haiti, an organization that “expands awareness of the culture and art of the Haitian people and of their need for health services, economic development and improved environmental conditions. The Friends also designs and implements projects in support of Hôpital Albert Schweitzer’s mission to improve the health and well-being of the people in Haiti’s Artibonite valley.” The event honors Cindy and Bill Swartz, MD who helped found the Physician Friends of HAS and have for many years shown a commitment to the Friends and Hôpital Albert Schweitzer. Originally established as a side project from Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club came out with a new album early last year to celebrate their 30th anniversary, their first record of new material in over 10 years. Their track “Genius of Love†has gone down in history as one of the best dance tracks of all time, so if you like to get down, this night’s for you.
This event will be hosted at the WQED studios and includes a variety of Haitian art for sale and delicious cuisine. Local bands Delicious Pastries and Thank You Rosekind are also on the bill. At $150 a pop, a VIP ticket will grant you access to the gala portion of the event, which begins at 6PM and includes a dinner buffet and appetizers as well as a silent auction and raffle. For $35 you can enjoy the concert portion of the event at 9PM. Tickets can be purchased here. For a full breakdown of the evening’s schedule, visit their website.
