Halloween Party Guide
Ahh…Halloween – The one weekend of the year I won’t complain about Pgh party promoters scheduling too much on the same evening. This time of year, it’s inevitable to have too many options, and that’s a sign of a healthy party scene, so I say, bring it ON party animals! First we’re going to break down all the haps day by day, starting with Friday. Then, we’ll choose a few that are not to miss. Sounds simple enough, right? We can’t promise we’ll help you with what to wear, but we can help you figure out what to do! Here goes:
Friday, October 28
–Devils Night III at Cantina
–JX4 VS Big Bacon at the Park House
–Dia De Los Muertos at Rocking Horse Artspace
–Night of 1000 Horrors Pt. 2 at Brillo Box
–Static’s First Annual Halloween Party
–Naughty Nightmare at Cattivo
–Halloween Party at The Church
Our pick: Static – They’ve got some killer prizes, with $500 in cash prizes handed out throughout the evening. $250 for sexiest costume and $250 for best overall. With local deejays Mad Tom Brown and Strobe on the decks, this party is sure to be a rager. This party’s also a steal price-wise, with no cover before 11pm. $10 after. Or you can get on the guest list by emailing VIP@staticpgh.com
Runner up: Devil’s Night III at the Cantina – When the Cantina brings in a guest deejay, it’s always worth going to. Their top-notch taste always translates into a packed house. Plus, you should party on the patio while you still can. No cover before 9. After that, it’s $5 with costume, $10 without.
Saturday, October 29
–Evaline Halloween Party
–Humanaut’s 11th Annual Chinatown Inn Halloween Party
–Title Town Soul & Funk Party’s Hallowe’en Happening
–Halloween Party/Cover show at The Shop
–Alice in Zombieland
–96.1 KISS Halloween Bash Featuring Jason Derulo at Stage AE
–Halloween Party Spectacular at New Amsterdam
–Halloween at Z:Lounge
–Halloween Eye’s Wide Shut at The Hideout
–Down & Derby Dead Disco at Belvedere’s
Our pick: Evaline – For obvious reasons, we have to go with Evaline. Ranked as one of the top Halloween parties in the U.S. by Spin, you’re doing yourself a disservice if you’ve lived in Pgh for more than a couple of years and you haven’t been. Last year I popped my Evaline cherry, which made this year’s Halloween plans a no-brainer. Admission is steep at $30 in advance, $40 at the door, but it’s all you can drink, so get there early, stay late and come thirsty!
Runner up: Humanaut’s 11th Annual Chinatown Inn Halloween Party – The Humanaut crew has been throwing down these parties for the past 11 years. As usual, the sound will be top notch, but there will also be a costume contest and some of your favorite Pgh deejays. A lot of the peeps behind VIA will be playing, so if that’s your bag, you should probably come. Plus, I hear the carpet’s trippy. At only $15, this is not a party that will put you in the hole too much.
Sunday, October 30
–Hip Hop and Halloween at District 3
Monday, October 31
–Rock and Roll the Bones Halloween Show at District 3
–Mad Mex Shadyside’s Mad Mansion Party
–Sublime Tribute Halloween Party at The Hard Rock Cafe
–AB Coffeehouse: A Halloween Dance Party
We’ve opted out of selecting favorites for Sunday and Monday since the pickins are slim, but if you’ve managed to make it that far without running out of gas and keeping your costume in one piece, props to you! Stay tuned for a Halloween recap where we’ll profile some of our favorite costumes. And be on the lookout for the NakYouOut gals this weekend!
