Every 67 seconds someone in the US develops Alzheimer’s.  On Friday October 17th, the Clear Thoughts Foundation will be hosting their annual Fall fundraiser, the Magical Memories Gala, in an effort towards the fight against dementia and other cognitive disorders. Since 2010, CTF has been working to help find effective drugs to cure and treat these mental disorders by raising money to fund research initiatives.

The foundation was started by Hayley and Matthew Jameson after their father was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). This is a rare type of dementia resulting from a group of related conditions due to the progressive degeneration of the temporal and frontal lobes of the brain. These particular parts of the brain play a significant role in decision-making, behavioral control, emotion and language. Their goal is to start a community of people dedicated to change the way society views and treats those affected by this condition.

MentalPic2The Magical Memories Gala will feature a silent auction of donated items. In past years, the foundation has received items like an autographed Marc Andre Fleury hockey stick, Steelers tickets, theater vouchers and more. Performing for the cause will be the nationally recognized magician, Mike Super, who was named the number one “mystifier” in the US.

While you’re perusing the one of a kind silent auction items, heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served by local catering company, Heavenly Cuisine. At the end of the night, they’ll also be giving away their annual Sweet Treats goodie bag. You’ll get food, candy, and an open bar – all while helping out a great cause.

Doors open at 5:30 PM and the magic starts at 7:30 PM at J. Verno Studios. You can purchase tickets here or check out their website to make a donation.
