We love a good art crawl…stimulating the senses, consuming free food and libations, what’s not to love? The summer Gallery Crawl this Friday, for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, has a special twist with their annual Cosmopolitan Pittsburgh Party, the biggest PCT event of the summer!  You can find a full Gallery Crawl schedule here. I personally always love the immersive installations from Wood Street Gallery.  This crawl will feature Light, Matter, Memory at the 601 Wood Street space,”Four spectacular installations using light to explore materiality and memory.”  I’m also intrigued by  Path: Installation by Elin Hansdottir, “A special maze-like installation incorporating light and space,” at 943 Liberty Avenue.

Be on the look out for a bunch of cool stops for Project PopUp, including Boutique, “A retail boutique featuring handmade wares from local artisans,” and Dream Cream Ice Cream Parlor, “More than just a great place for a scoop. A portion of designated flavor sales will be contributed to causes in exchange for community service of the recipient, aka ‘the dreamer.’ ” YUM!

If you purchase tickets to the Cosmopolitan Pittsburgh Party, you will receive a passport to take on your journey through the crawl, which you can fill will special artist-commissioned stamps at certain crawl stops.  VIPs of the Cosmo Party get two exclusive secret party stops during the crawl as well, featuring food, drinks, and special installations. Buy your tickets here or stop at the Theater Square box office the night of the crawl.

This year’s Cosmopolitan’s theme is Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, hence the passport souvenir. The soiree will go down at the old Bally’s Gym at 119 6th Street from 9PM – midnight. Each level of the venue will embody a different mode of travel. The basement will be a subterranean train station/ disco featuring DJ Dad Time. Level one will be transformed into an airport terminal hosting lots of yummy treats from local eateries like Andy’s, Meat & Potatoes, and Salt of the Earth, along with Beer School, Wine Flights, and dance lessons. A car park will take over the upper level, with psychic readings alongside several performances from TM Eye, DJ Koko, K-Hun and more!

If you haven’t taken your summer vay cay yet, or just need an excuse for an artsy party, head down to the Cultural District on Friday and be whisked away on a cosmopolitan adventure!
