The Assemble MakerDate Auction
If you’ve ever attended an Unblurred event along the Penn Avenue Arts District, you are probably familiar with Assemble, a “community space for arts and technology.” Assemble’s mission is to provide a space to unite artists, technologists, and makers with the community, by providing a platform for experiential learning, opening creative processes, and building confidence through making. If that sounds like a worthy mission to you, then here’s your chance to help them out! The MakerDate Auction is a fundraiser for Assemble hosted on Saturday, May 18th from 7-10pm at 6119 in East Liberty. Don’t expect a traditional fundraiser with an auction for local gift cards though. MakerDate aims to embody the mission of Assemble by pairing local artists with skill seekers to continue community building through active learning.
Attendees will have the unique chance to bid on dates with artists, craft makers, designers, innovators and skill-owners who will work with the winning bidders to make a piece of art, a personalized piece of technology, or teach a new skill. The dates will take place after the event at a time and place determined by the maker and winning bidder. There will also be a more traditional auction featuring items donated by a number of local artisans, creators, and businesses. In their first year, Assemble raised $4,000 with over 100 attendees. This year promises to be even bigger and better!
The night will feature 15 local artists to bid on a date with, as well as music, dancing, and drinks, of course. Tickets are $20 for general admission, or $50 for “super awesome VIP” entry and can be purchased here. Check out the list of participating artists:
