Raw Pittsburgh: Awakening
RAW Pittsburgh is back for 2014 with a whole new format. Last year RAW featured 20-30 artists each month, including visual artists, musicians, performing artists, photographers, hair and makeup artists, fashion designers, and filmmakers. This year it’s a whole new ball game, with twice as many artists featured at each showcase, and a new, bigger venue. For the month of February and April it will be at Club Zoo in the Strip District. To accommodate the expansion, RAW will also be switching it up by hosting the showcase every other month instead of monthly. If you missed last year’s RAW showcases, mark your calendar so you don’t miss all the action this year. There will only be six showcases this year to explore!
The season starts with Awakening, featuring 42 local artists plus some special guests from Miami, Web Three featuring Pittsburgh native Kaaren Styles. Kellee Maize will be returning as the hostess with the mostest, joined by DJ Hank D on the turntables. In addition to Web Three, locals Badboxes and Shad Ali will also be performing. Awakening will feature two performing artists, Nikki Telladictorian doing burlesque as The Countess Von Tella, and Yes Brain Dance Theater. There will also be three fashion shows highlighting some talented local designers, make up artists and hair stylists. And of course plenty of visual art, photography and accessories available for purchase. The full list of participating artists can be found on RAW: Pittsburgh’s website.
Awakening goes down this Thursday, February 27th from 7pm-12am at Club Zoo. While Club Zoo is typically an under 21 venue, this event will be 21+ only, with proper ID required. Don’t worry, they’ll be transforming the venue with several bars set up throughout so you can still get your drink on. You can purchase tickets from the participating artists online for only $15, or at the door for $20. Dress fashionably friends!
