SWAN Day Pittsburgh 2012 is part of an international holiday called SWAN (Support Women Artists Now) Day, which was founded in 2008 to honor women artists around the world. SWAN Day Pittsburgh 2012 marks No Name Players‘ fourth annual SWAN Day event. The event features world-premiere works from Pittsburgh-based dancers, musicians, poets, theatre artists, visual artists, performance artists, and fashion designers who will be celebrating strong, driven, talented women from the region. Every performance and work of art was inspired by interviews with women from across PA. The event’s organizers traveled across the state filming interviews with women of all ages and from all backgrounds. This footage was then given to the participating artists who used the footage as inspiration to create new works.

What makes this event a truly special occasion is Martha Richards, the co-founder of the international SWAN Day movement, who will be making a special trip to the PGH to speak at the opening night festivities! Last month, Richards announced that No Name Players, their Producing Artistic Director – Tressa Glover – and SWAN Day Pittsburgh have been named official international partners for the event, noting the outpouring of support the Pittsburgh community is giving the event this year.

Opening night takes place Thursday, March 15 at The New Hazlett Theater, 8PM. Tickets are available online at ShowClix and are priced at $20 for presale and $25 cash at the door. This year’s event will also boast a beautiful opening night pre-show reception featuring hors d’oeuvres provided by Whole Foods, Nine on Nine, and Taste of Dahntahn, with sweet treats being provided by Peace Love and Little Donuts of Oakland. The reception will begin at 6:00pm on March 15th and will also feature a screening of the SWAN Day Pittsburgh 2012 interview footage. Tickets that include both the reception and that evening’s performance are $30.00 and must be purchased in advance.

Can’t make it on the 15th? Not to worry! An encore performance will be presented on Friday, March 16. Both nights include an assortment of fabulous food and giveaways, courtesy of ModCloth. A full listing of the night’s performers and artists can be found here.
