1901636_611178818965197_49602296_nRAW: Pittsburgh is back for its second installment of 2014, and we have the inside scoop on how to prepare for maximum enjoyment of the local artist showcase. For all the RAW virgins out there, RAW is an independent arts organization that hand-selects and spotlights up and coming local creatives in visual art, film/video, fashion, music, HMU artistry, photography, and performing art. RAW: Pittsburgh goes down every other month February through December. April brings us the Spectrum Showcase, featuring 23 visual artists and photogs, three different dance performances, four musical acts, four fashion designers, two accessories artists, one makeup artist, and one hair stylist. It’s a night chock full of creative energy, so here’s how we suggest you prepare.

Arrive Early. February’s RAW had over 900 attendees, so get there early to reserve your place in the potentially long lines! Doors open at 7pm, and be sure to have your ID ready, guests must be 21 or older to enter.

Bring Cash. We suggest you snag pre-sale tickets online from your favorite artists to show your support and save $5. But if you plan on purchasing your tickets at the door, be sure to bring cash, as credit cards are not accepted. Pre-sale tickets are $15, tickets are $20 at the door.

1509261_611189882297424_310296018_nConsider Buying Art. RAW is all about supporting emerging artists, and purchasing their art or merchandise is the best way to do that! Art ranges from $5-$10 for a print, $20 for a t-shirt, or $100 and up for paintings and larger works. Don’t despair, credit cards ARE accepted for any art purchases.

Food & Drink. RAW: Spectrum is taking place at Club Zoo in the Strip District. While the venue is typically an under 21 club, as we mentioned before, RAW is 21+ only. Expect an entirely transformed venue, including the addition of several fully stocked bars with all your fav adult beverages. This month make sure you come hungry, because the BRGR truck will be onsite dishing out their tasty burgers.

This month Ricky Pirozzi will be doing a live painting during the event, plus Spectrum will feature an eclectic array of dance and music performances!
