If you can believe it, September marks 10 years of gallery crawls in Pittsburgh. On September 26, this long-time favorite event of  both residents and tourists alike will be celebrated by The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust through their 10th Anniversary Gallery Crawl. The gallery crawl is a  quarterly showcase of art and entertainment in the heart of the Cultural District, and as always, all of the exhibits are free and open to the public, and take place in a variety of galleries and spaces.  To see a full list of events, go here.  If this crawl is something you’ve never done before, this event will be a great one to start with.

This time around, every stop in the crawl will impress both crawl veterans and newbies, though there are definitely a few that caught our eye in particular. The O’Reilly Theater is celebrating its 40th birthday with crawl-er selfies and free cupcakes, and it is a great place to start since the cupcakes are first-come first-serve basis. This summer the theater held a preview party for all of the plays that will be stopping in Pittsburgh in the upcoming year. The parking lot at 190 8th St. is holding their 10th annual crawl celebration with music by Nate da Phat Barber and Les Nubians, and don’t be sketched out by the location, its legit, we promise! Crazy Mocha will be showcasing artist Gerard Tonti who paints using only tea and coffee, frequently situating his paintings in cafe-style settings.  Additionally, the Carnegie Library will be at 820 Liberty Ave. to feature button-making and a small book store. Of course, you can’t forget to stop by arguably the tastiest part of the crawl….Dream Cream Ice Cream.

If you’re around Tito Way, the Cell Phone Disco is a must see exhibit.  This art installation requires a cell phone to view. Check out the video below to see how it works!  The Fall Night Market will also be open on Penn Ave. and 8th St, featuring jewelry, apparel, art, food and even drinks for those 21+.  Wood Street Galleries is also a huge part of the gallery crawl experience. This time around they’ll be featuring Iclandic artist Finnbogi Petursson for his solo U.S. exhibition entitled SECOND/SECOND.

The 10th anniversary is a pretty big deal, so they’ll keep the party going with a Crawl After Dark. Starting at 10PM, the after party will feature a BYOB Arcade Comedy Theater performance with improv, public speakers, and a PowerPoint Karaoke Throwdown.  This improv performance features comedians competing against each other by presenting PowerPoint slides they’ve never seen before. If you’re looking for a quieter night, stop by Andy’s at Fairmont Hotel for free jazz music by Maureen Budway. Other events include Cabaret lessons at Theater Square, SPACE‘s music series featuring music by YXU and Ennui, and karaoke at August Henry’s Saloon.

If you stop by, make sure to tag any photos or tweets about the crawl with #CrawlPGH so everyone can see your perspective of the art, and don’t forget to share them on Instagram with @nakyouout!

The exhibits open at 5:30PM and last until 10PM, followed by the Crawl After Dark.  Feel free to start at any location in the Cultural District, you’ll be sure to see many interesting and amazingly talented artists and their work!
