On January 21, CMOA invites Pittsburghers to step into Third Thursdays, the premier of their 2016 event series and the first of many collaborative endeavors they’ve got planned for the year ahead.

The museum’s new Monthly will host an array of concepts combining high-quality sound, media, music and art exhibits every third Thursday from January to December. The first will be co-hosted alongside tastemakers of local creative hub, BOOM Concepts.

Leaders at BOOM and CMOA have planned relentlessly to ensure the party induces a unique vibe, a welcoming energy, and the ability for guests to curate their own experience–from grooveable tunes and various artworks, to late-night bites from the museum’s menu.

Starting at 8PM, the first Third Thursday will heat up in the Hall of Sculpture for a silent disco affair. Guests can wander CMOA’s extensive and fully accessible galleries; slip on headphones and get loose to beats by musical guest DJs, Christo and EyeJay (below); or take a tour with BOOM Concepts’ facilitators, D.S. Kinsel and Julie Mallis.

Attendees can further explore a sneak peek at the latest Teenie Harris exhibition, “Great Performances Off-Stage,” which will be open to the public on January 22.

CMOA’s program coordinator Laura Zorch started heading the facility’s event calendar this past summer, and she expressed much excitement for the series’ upcoming installments:

“It’s shaping up to be a great year for us to experiment [at CMOA] and utilize all of our space. The galleries will be fully open to explore for those who haven’t toured the museum in the past, and we’re definitely hoping to bring in some new faces with the different hosts and collaborators,” she shared. “One strength about [working in] Pittsburgh is that the people and organizations work really well together… It’s less about competition and more about collaborating with others to create something cool for the city’s residents.”

Zorch and the CMOA team have since linked up with several cross-community organizations for fun, forward-thinking Thursday ventures planned throughout the year…

Next up is LOVE on February 18, featuring special appearances by local afterhours co-op Hot Mass and the esteemed Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

At LOVE, guests will throw it back into 12th century France, browse their favorite sculptures and paintings amongst the PSO chamber musicians’ sweet melodies, and groove inside the museum’s Hall of Architecture with DJs Jarrett Tebbets, Aaron Clark, and the Pittsburgh Track Authority.
