This upcoming Friday, September 27th from 6-11PM American Eagle Outfitters in South Side will be transformed into an auction space for “Art on Fire,” a dual a celebration and auction to benefit the Pittsburgh Glass Center. Over 100 pieces of one-of-a-kind artwork crafted locally and around the world will be available to bid on.

Nancy Callan is this year’s honorary glass artist. She even donated a piece of her own to be auctioned off. “I try to balance the fluidity of hot glass with the sense of wonder and fun I felt the first time I gathered from the furnace. I believe play is essential not only for the artist but for everyone. When we daydream or play games, we return to our childlike state of mind, where we are free to explore and imagine. This simple joy is a counterweight to our busy lives and is central to my artistic practice,” she says.
“Mandolin Cloud”, her piece donated for the auction, is evidence of her serious love of glass and mastery of traditional Venetian techniques that she learned working with Lino Tagliapietra for 16 years. Named after its shape, it blends bright colors of red, orange and yellow.

Registration for the event is $95.00 and can be done online here. Bid live, submit an absentee or phone bid by contacting Heather McElwee at 412-365-2145 or by email.
