30/30 Day Eleven Recap | Night Twelve Deets

HO boy what a busy Monday! So busy that I barely have the time to write this post. Yesterday was a gorgeous day and we were lucky enough to be able to enjoy it outside on the Cantina’s patio where we were joined by the sounds of Runaway, a Brooklyn-based DJ duo comprised of Marcos Cabral and Jacques Renault. I keep hearing all this hoo ha about forward-thinking house music. House music that’s rooted deeply in the traditions of Detroit, New York and sometimes they like to throw Chicago in there too. I’d love to know what that means, though. What makes house music more forward-thinking than other types of house music? I’m beginning to learn the difference by paying attention to different bookings, but I still can’t completely wrap my head around this concept. That would have been a good thing to ask these guys. Instead, I awkwardly asked them about some other stuff.

Jacques was pumping out the jams, so I primarily talked to Marcos, which was alright with me because he was the cuter one. Marcos has released records on an ass ton of labels. DFA, Endless Flight, Chinatown, Wurst, Mule Musiq, Aus Music and many many others, all of which hold absolutely no significance to my inept brain. He also co-owns On the Prowl with Jacques. These guys know their shiz! I tried talking with them about music, but was hesitant because I didn’t want to say anything too naive or embarrassing. I know my place, yo. The furthest we got was, “I buy a lot of records,” the I being Marcos and not myself – hello! He has been deejaying since the age of 15 which means it’s quite possible this guy spun his first record before he lost his virginity. How cute and endearing! He knew absolutely nothing about Pittsburgh, which was great. I didn’t have to suffer through ten minutes of yinzer-tinged jabs, though I did school them both on what a yinzer is. I’m glad to know that I can’t mimic the accent even though I tried. There’s nothing hot about a yinzer accent, folks. Marcos is also a movie buff, a Pisces and enjoys Negra Modelo. I didn’t get a chance to ask him about long walks on the beach. Maybe next time.

We also hit up the Lawrenceville Blossom Tour for a bit, so be sure to peep the photos! Tonight we’ll be heading to Diesel for Face to Face. I’ve gotta go put my chucks on and roll around in an alley before I get there. I once dated a guy in high school who had liberty spikes. Does that make me punk?
