Suuns at 6119
As with most bands these days, Montreal’s Suuns can’t spell to save their lives but make up for it in musical prowess, praised as “drone scholars” by the New York Times and NME‘s “Best New Band” of 2011. Suuns just released their sophomore album, Images Du Futur, their follow up to debut LP Zeroes QC, one that set the tone for a sound mature beyond their years. Their fusion of psych, dance and punk make for an intriguing and engaging live set. Catch them live this Wednesday at 6119 for their first headlining gig in Pittsburgh, as the last time they were here it was for an opening slot with The Black Angels.
Fellow Pittsburgh publication Draw Us Lines ran an interview with the band today. So check that out and then peep their latest video which dropped back in February.
Suuns’ music has drawn comparisons to the likes of Radiohead, Clinic and the Velvet Underground. Although overused in descriptions of Suuns, Krautrock is an accurate label as well. We’ll leave it up to you, however, when it comes to determining if their sophomore release demonstrates the growth frequently referred to in reviews of the album. This 18+ show has a door time of 8:30 and starts at 9. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased here or at the door.
