Thrival Innovation + Music Festival
Thrival began last year as an effort to expose some of the innovation that happens in Pittsburgh while attracting all different kinds of people with their hot music line-up. This year, experience two days of awesome programming on September 13 and 14 at Bakery Square. The events celebrate the amazing work done by people in Pittsburgh every day via start-ups, as well as businesses that exhibit pure innovation and hard work. It’s not just a place to watch, it’s a place to interact with some of these creators and game-changers. In order to encourage even more innovation, there are plenty of workshops and panels that provide resources to anyone with a bright idea. The name says it all; it’s a place where people are thriving and encourage others to thrive. It’s all local companies that shed light on the things happening here in the city and all of its opportunities for growth.
Thrill Mill, Inc. is the host of the Thrival Festival. They are a nonprofit organization that provides office space, monetary support, programming, and mentorship to early stage start-ups within an array of industries. Their goal is to produce an organic, self-sustaining cycle of economic growth that will stimulate the entrepreneurship in students and professionals, as well as create new businesses and jobs in the ‘Burgh. The innovation side of the Thrival Festival’s goal is to attract new investors in order to promote a cycle of innovation that will allow Pittsburgh to flourish for generations to come.
The music is the other major reason to buy tickets to this event. On Saturday, August 13, you can look forward to seeing headliners Portugal. The Man.They are known for their innovative rock music, and their indie tunes are loved and respected by many, with their most recent album Evil Friends reaching 28 on the Billboard 200.
On Saturday, Portugal. The Man will be accompanied by Phosphorescent, Talib Kweli, and Motion City Soundtrack, as well as the Misterwives, Raury, 1,2,3, The Red Western, and Tairey. Sunday, August 14, you’ll be treated to a DJ set by Moby. He’s is considered by many to be one of the most important figures in dance music during the 1990s, and he hasn’t stopped since. He’s been nominated for several Grammys and has been the recipient of numerous other awards. Sunday will also feature other DJs, most notably, Green Velvet, Z-Trip, Mayer Hawthorne, Buku, and Pittsburgh Track Authority.These musicians, as well as the awesome innovators, workshops, and panels by local and national entrepreneurs are sure not to disappoint.
