Gaga

I *gasp* attended the Lady Gaga concert. Please note the lack of a lyrically-integrated subject line, excessive amount of pictures, or use of the word “epic” anywhere in this post. That shit is so overdone it’s almost ruined Lady Gaga for me. Almost.

Coming off the tail end of a new release and yet another Madonna copy-cat rumor, I wasn’t that excited to see Lady Gaga. Sure, I got a ticket more than 6 months ago after her first date in Pgh sold out within 5 minutes. I was happy to wait. I didn’t know my fandom would lose so much gas. I became a fan because I love broads who play the piano. It’s a weakness. Lady Gaga has mastered the art of writing pop songs that can translate well to many different genres and audiences. I appreciate her talent. I do not appreciate her image and all the hype surrounding it. This concert was a pleasant surprise.

Rather than elaborate costume changes and pointless props, Gaga kept it simple. Sure, the set was out of control, but it allowed for a more stripped-down live experience. There was a lot of dancing and performance, and not as much frou frou. I would have liked to see her do more than one song on the piano, but wasn’t expecting too much hearing her play an arena.

It was also my first time at Consol Energy Center. They won Pollstar’s 2011 award for “Best New Major Concert Venue.” I was impressed. The staff was extremely pleasant considering the amount of shit they probably had to put up with that night. It wasn’t too hard to get a drink, and the bathroom experience was minimally gross. I don’t think I would see a show there if I had to have a seat. General admission/standing room is the only way I’d go. Otherwise, the venue would probably feel too big for my taste. All in all, I would come here again. Who’s got Pens tickets!? I totally kiss on the first date.
