Remember last year’s VIA Music and New Media Festival? You probably do. What you probably don’t remember is that Freddie Gibbs, a rising hip hop star, performed at the fest. Overshadowed by all of the bleepy bloop action and a Big Freedia performance that could knock the socks off of your grandpa, Gibbs’ set was watched by a lackluster audience and only the most die hard of hip hop fans in attendance. One year later, however, Gibbs has gained more street cred and a much larger following. Now he’s got a gig this weekend at Shadow Lounge all to himself, and a few others of course!
This month’s installment of the Shadow Lounge Music Fest benefits the Pittsburgh Human Rights Network. It’s hosted by none other than Gene Stovall with musical accompaniment from DJ Vex and Buscrates. The lineup is as follows:
7p-8p Talent Show
8:25-8:40 Nikki Allen (Spoken Word)
8:45-9p CHRIS & the DOPE Techniques (Live Hip-Hop)
9:10-9:35 Revolution Brass Band (Brass Band Jam)
9:40-10 Jack Wilson (Hip-Hop)
10:05-10:30 The Cornel West Theroy (Indie Hip-Hop Band)
10:35-10:55 Varsity Squad (Hip-Hop)
11-11:30 Chen Lo (Live Hip-Hop)
11:35-11:55 Kid Daytona (Hip-Hop)
12-12:20 Rapsody (Hip-Hop)
12:25-12:55 Freddie Gibbs (Hip-Hop)
1a-1:30 Swift Technique (Jam/Hip-Hop band)
*Note: Cornel West Theory and Swift Technique have been removed from the lineup. No updates on time slots have been released, so just get there and stay put, suckas!
Tickets for this 18+ event can be purchased here and are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.
