Minneapolis-based DVS1 is slated for Humanaut‘s next big event, which will take place this Friday at Belvedere’s. They haven’t had a show for a while now, so I’m sure you’re all anxious for your fix. As someone who didn’t know much about the guy or his music before, I can say I appreciate his work ethic. I’ll let you know what I think about the music after Friday. Chances are, however, he’ll blow the lid off of Pgh, as Humanaut’s bookings tend to do.
One thing I particularly enjoy about the fella is that he’s loyal to his city, something all of us here in Pgh can get behind. Much like the peeps involved with VIA, DVS1 has worked hard to build his local scene. “In Minneapolis, we take influence from everywhere. In New York, you start to realize how many people are doing what you do. In Chicago, you have this weird underlying pressure to live up to what the city has meant and has become. There’s no pressure in Minneapolis. You manipulate all of these influences into your own thing. It’s a Midwest sound.” -Taken from RA. I wonder if Pittsburgh has begun to form a “sound”. Sure, we have things we’re known for, like one of the longest-running DNB weeklies in the country, but I’d be curious to hear what others have to say about our “sound”.
Nifty additions to this event include a four-corner sound system, which, if you were at the VIA Presents show last night, you had an opportunity to hear. They also have this sick 20-foot LED wall. Peep the video below to see what you’re in for:
Here’s a great interview with DVS1 from RA. Learn more about the guy before you see him play. Three more great things about the night: 1 – it goes til 3, 2 – Belves has cheap booze and 3 – Pittsburgh’s own REALMZ is opening. I’ve not heard of this cat before, so I’m excited to experience a Pgh-based artist who is new to me.
Tickets can be purchased here or through one of those cute patoot Humanaut boys.
