Camp Funktronic – it’s urban camping with a funky twist, all for the small fee of $10, which includes an open bar. I can’t think of many cooler things to do than this on a Friday night as summer whispers over the city. Dayom, was that poetic or what?! Anyway, come boogie and booze with us while enjoying a selection of weenies, fake meat dawgs and smores at the only 21+ camp around. The event will be held at Free Ride, a part of Construction Junction. Cool kids club in full effect.
The evening’s festivities begin at 9:30 with the sounds of Mega-Def. We’ve covered them before here on NYO. The band features two emcees and delivers a blend of hip-hop, rock and funk that can get even the squarest of broads movin’. Other talent includes: (descriptions taken from event page)
Pandemic Pete – Master of disaster. Sure to kill any dance party by playing jamz from other lands.
DJ Thermos – Furiously trying to find a genealogical link between himself and Afrika Bambaataa (aka random shit that you’ll love played hip-hop style).
Gusto – RockÃn your house lovin ass to a parallel universe where latin flavors and hip hop jams collide with late 70’s disco.
Sara V[icious] – International beats with pounding bass sounds to make you sweat. Cumbia, reggaeton, baile funk, mumbathon, kuduro and more.
Sean MC – Applies a jazz musician’s fine trained ear to cutting up loud rap music.
DJ Timov – Balkan beats and other global madness. Dizzying trumpet jump around music….and more!
Mysteremark – He’s got soul.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Arts Greenhouse, a nonprofit hip-hop education program dedicated to cultivating the artistic talents of Pittsburgh teens.
