Extreme Sports Classes in Pittsburgh
At NakYouOut, we work to give you the scoop on what’s going on in the ‘Burgh that some would call ‘out of the ordinary’. For those of you looking for an adrenaline rush or who want to cross something off your bucket list with your bestie, we’ve done the research to provide you with some extreme activities to do nearby.
Skiing & Snowboarding @ Seven Springs & Hidden Valley
Seven Springs Mountain Resort and Hidden Valley Resort are Pittsburgh’s premiere ski lodges. Seven Springs has 64 slopes and trails of which 12 have an expert level ranking or higher. Hidden Valley is a smaller resort with 25 slopes. Both offer private or group lessons for those of you who are rusty, or just picking up the hobby. If you’re a pro, you can get a combined season pass for unlimited access to both. It’s about that time to grab your snowboard or skis and hit up one of their black diamond courses. Treat yourself afterwards to a night in one of their cottages or a spa package to relax after a long day on the slopes.
BMX @ The Wheel Mill:
Most of you already know how to ride a bike. Some of you even commute on two wheels and venture up and down the crazy hills of Pittsburgh on a regular basis. Now you can take it to the next level. The Wheel Mill has private instructors who work with those at all experience levels. Their indoor courses were designed with the assistance of professional B.M.X. riders for the ultimate experience. If you don’t have a bike, helmet, and/or pads, you can rent them there. You can also get basic fixes for your own bike for a small fee. Here’s the waiver you’ll have to sign before you go to the park. Have fun!
ATV @ Mines & Meadows:
Ride around scenic forests trails filled with mud bogs and creek crossings or underground in their 14-acre limestone mine with a guide at Mines & Meadows ATV/RV Resort. You can get some lessons and camp out for a few days too. ATVs are available for renting, so its not necessary to own one for this adventure. The great outdoors is calling you.
Pittsburgh Skydiving School
Skydiving at Pittsburgh Skydiving School gets you as close to flying as a humanly possible. From the start, you will learn basic skydiving procedures, free fall body position, safety routines, canopy deployment, and canopy control. You’ll complete the course and execute the actual skydive in 1-2 days, depending on timing, weather, and instructor availability. Once you have the basics down, two instructors (or one in some cases) will jump with you as you free fall. From there, you have either a radio or hand signals to guide you to the drop zone. The school also offers videos of your stellar skydiving experience. You must be 18 or older to participate.
White Water Rafting & Kayaking in Ohiopyle
Fight the flow of nature with Pittsburgh’s Youghiogheny River in Ohiopyle! Don’t worry, you won’t have to do it alone. At places like The Ohiopyle Trading Post and Wilderness Voyagers, you can sign up and have a guide paddle you through every twist and turn along the way. The Youghiogheny has class II, III, or V rapid areas depending where you start. If you want to sharpen your kayaking skills, you can take a lesson with one of the whitewater athletes who have years of experience on the rapids. And yes, you’ll need a waiver here too.
