The Wavves Giveaway
Based out of San Diego, California, Wavves intertwines the beach into their music, and not just with their name. Songs like, “Sail To The Sun” and “King Of The Beach” bring the sun and sand of California to listeners everywhere – and they’ll be doing just that when they hit Pittsburgh on September 10th at The Altar Bar. The opener is local band Wicked Chief for this stop on the tour. Though doors don’t open until 7pm, this is the first time that Wavves will be in Pittsburgh, so make sure to show up early!
Formed in 2008 by Nathan Williams, and then joined by Alex Gates, Stephen Pope, and Brian Hill, the band has had huge success recently as their fourth studio album, Afraid of Heights hit #81 on the Billboard top 200 chart in 2013. They performed their second single from the album, “Demon to Lean On” on their television debut on the Late Show With David Letterman. Their song “Nine Is God” was also featured in the video game Grand Theft Auto V, which they performed on Conan.
Wicked Chief is a new local band that has formed and debuted within the past year. They’ve played around at local venues in Pittsburgh, including Club Cafe and even had the chance to play the Three Rivers Arts Festival stage. Their first album was released on March 21st this year, and they’ve already played with Indie Rock greats such as Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!, The Kaiser Chiefs, and The Composure.
