The Crystal Castles Giveaway

CCOne would think that a band with over 1 million likes on Facebook would have sold out Mr. Smalls by now, but don’t let that fool you! The Crystal Castles show Thursday, May 9 will sell out in advance, and you don’t want to be the nerd who slept on buying a ticket. We’ll also be giving a pair of tickets away at the end of this preview for those of you feeling lucky today. In the meantime, let’s chat about what makes Crystal Castles so bad ass and why you should go see them next week, which can be summed up in two words – Alice Glass.

OK, sure, Glass doesn’t play any instruments, but what she lacks in technical ability she makes up for with her commanding stage presence. It’s a lot of bleeps and bloops, but their experimental style’s chaotic essence is a reflection of their accidental start. Ethan Kath met Alice when she was only 15 years old after hearing her sing in a local punk band. He asked her to sing vocals over some tracks he had written, secretly recorded them and released them without her knowledge under the title Alice Practice. After building popularity online, the two reunited to release a limited single under the name Crystal Castles in 2006. Their latest album, III, was released last year to positive reviews – in fact, all of their albums have been well received by critics – but really, what do they know? It’s all about the fan experience! And Crystal Castles certainly delivers. Check out their latest vid, which just dropped earlier this week.

We’re not gonna hype this show up any more than we need to. If you want to go you’re probably already on board. Let’s do this giveaway and get the heck outta here.
